How Aura™ Home Computer Security Software File Blocker Technology Works
Aura puts the
computer user in control of the “program files” on their computer. Program files are a particular type of file that
contains instructions that the computer “executes” to run a program. Each of these
programs has one or more “program files” that contain the instructions that make
the program work.
This is a very important concept, because changing or adding program files is the
means by which programs that the computer owner might not find desirable (including
malware) are
installed on the machine. With Aura, the computer owner can keep program
files from changing or being added to the computer without his/her specific consent
and knowledge.
Aura has within it
a set of rules that determine whether or not any specific “running
program”
should be allowed to create or modify other program files within the
user’s computer. In this way, Aura keeps the program files on the computer “clean” or renders
them unchanged – unless the users specifically wants to have the program file run
on their computer.
Aura is configured
to only block the changing of program files from a specific list of “running programs”. Since the common routes for malicious
software to get into your computer is via the Internet, Aura’s
protection concentrates on keeping known Internet focused applications
from changing program files. These include:
Identified Browsers: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Mozilla, etc.,
Identified Email programs: Outlook, etc, and
Identified Chat programs/Instant Messaging programs: Yahoo Instant Messenger, MSN
Messenger, etc.
